Virtual network adapter in ESX 5.0

In ESX 5.0, I found VMware doc of networking guide is quite confusing on virtual network card support for TCP segementation offload (TSO) and Jumbo frame since there is no "vmxnet enhanced" found vSphere GUI.

I have captured the following settings in Windows guest OS to confirm the TSO and jumbo support on the virtual network card types:

1. E1000
2. VMXNET 2 (Enhanced)
3. VMXNET3

 The guest OS used is Windows 2003 R2

For E100, no Jumbo frame setting found but TSO supported

 

For VMXNET2(Enhanced),Jumbo frame and TSO found

For VMXNET3, Jumbo frame and TSO supported found

I hope this post can clarify the the TSO and jumbo frame support on virtual network card types.
